Golden Hour Site-specific installation, Studio Rö, Milan, 2023
Golden Hour represents the Howe Sound mountainscape of the Pacific Northwest, Canada. The porcelain shards, individual deconstructions of the mountains, reflect our fragility while holding possibility.
Torn ceramic edges echo the wildness of mountain ranges, while beeswax candles within the porcelain carry the glow of the beloved golden hour at sunset. Here, we count our blessings and gaze across distant granite ridges.
The work is set on a maple slab, its surface treated using the Shou Sugi Ban method, and suspended by polished brass, extending the warmth and reflective glow of the piece. Above, a second, hand-carved maple slab rests lightly, its thin, whispering form echoing a drifting cloud. Charred on its outer surface and softly finished within, it carries both weight and air.
